How Do I Gain Motivation?

Simply put, motivation is your drive to get up in the morning, your “drive” for the rest of the day. It is the whole of your goals, your plans, your needs, and your inspiration. Motivation is also the fuel for (self) confidence: it stimulates you to get the things you want done.

But what happens when your energy is low and you’re not motivated? You may have problems with your relationships, with your health, financially, or feel you have too many things to do. Your motivation for your activities is then hard to find.

What can you do to motivate yourself?

7 ways to improve your motivation:

1. Set goals.

You can’t achieve anything if you don’t know what you’re striving for. Write down what your goal is, why you want to achieve it, and how you plan to do it. Reward yourself when you have achieved something.

2. Small steps.

Now that you have written down your goals, think about how you can achieve them. Take small steps. If your goal is to lose 20 pounds, go for 5 pounds first. Think big, but take small steps!

3. Improve yourself.

Always look at the progress you have made and look at the possibilities to improve yourself or give something extra. For example, you can send your clients a thank you card, simply because they are your customer. Make things happen instead of waiting for them to happen!

4. Give yourself a pat on the back.

You have taken the first step and you should be proud of that! The first step is often the hardest, congratulate yourself on it. Stop your feelings now that the first step is behind you and you feel good. Don’t sit still, because the best time to take the next step is NOW.

5. Turn on the music!

Your favorite music keeps you moving and not just on the dance floor. Your brain changes when you are exposed to certain music. This has a positive effect on your mood, but also on your energy level. Choose your favorite feel-good songs and make sure you move your body to the beat.

6. Find support.

Find people who will listen to you and give you good feedback and avoid negative people who pull you down.

7. Be kind to yourself.

Everyone goes through bad times from time to time. Criticizing yourself only has the opposite effect.

You are the only one who can make choices for yourself and choose how you want to live your life. Make those choices, think positively, and do things to improve your world for yourself and those around you.

Decide what you want to do, do it, and most importantly, enjoy it!
